The Australian: The Red Shoes

The Red Shoes is currently touring in Sydney, as part of the Sydney International Arts Festival, before it flies across the country to Perth. The Australian's theatre critic, Deborah Jones, reviewed opening night.

In raucous vaudeville fashion Kneehigh sings, prances and, of course, dances its way to evocations of some extremely dark places, including the horrors of two world wars. The energy is rough and ferocious, punctuated by the silken, languid, controlling commentary of Lady Lydia (Giles King), resplendent in long gown and abundant wig.
