Mademoiselle Chambon

Director: Stéphane Brizé, France, 101min, M
In French with subtitles

Jean (Vincent Lindon) leads a happy, quiet life with his loving wife and young son. When Jean meets his son's teacher (Sandrine Kiberlain), he strikes up an unexpected friendship with the fragile stranger that slowly ignites their mutual desires and needs. As their universes become intertwined, and Jean’s ordinary life begins to falter, they are forced to weigh the risks of pursuing their unspoken attraction.

Director Stéphane Brizé brings a sympathetic and thoughtful eye to this contemporary 'brief encounter' as real-life ex-partners Lindon and Kiberlain play out their circumstances with quiet grace.

The simplest of stories can be elevated by first-rate acting and directing … Mademoiselle Chambon achieves a subtle but devastating impact. HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

★★★★ MARGARET POMERANZ, AT THE MOVIES

[Mademoiselle Chambon] will leave true lovers of cinema heartbroken and buzzing. THE WEST AUSTRALIAN

Both Lindon and Kiberlain (who are, quite remarkably, real life ex-lovers and spouses) deliver achingly affecting performances as agonisingly non-communicative and introverted soulmates. THE SUNDAY TIMES & PERTHNOW
