The Lloyd Cole Small Ensemble

Touring on new studio album Broken Record, ex-Commotions front man Lloyd Cole brings a 3-piece band that includes Mark Schwaber (acoustic guitar, mandolin) and Matt Cullen (acoustic guitar, banjo) for a night of Americana-tinged country-pop.

This is both an acoustic romp through re-workings of Cole's back catalogue ('Perfect Skin', 'Rattlesnakes' and 'Are You Ready to be Heartbroken') and fantastic new material displaying his trademark song-writing genius.

A robust set of tunes, many of which have a country tinge but all still contain that barbed Cole lyricism. ★★★★ SCOTTISH SUNDAY EXPRESS

It is quite possibly the best Lloyd Cole edition ever, with never-ending highpoints; from the old 'Rattlesnakes' (on mandolin) to the new fantastically beautiful 'Why in the world?' DN Sweden

Stoney Joe
Calling a band 'unique' these days might be cliché, but if any act fits the description it must be Stoney Joe. Who else would have the hide to mix straight-up fingerpickin' country guitar, ukelele and mandolin with programmed beats and a vintage sh-101 synthesiser? How many other bands in town have not one, but two ocarinas in the mix (both tenor and alto)? What other bass player triggers samples with his feet? And where else are you gonna find hats that big?

Relatively new to the country music scene, Stoney Joe's style can roughly be described as 'country and western electro noir'. The music is inspired by the great expanses of Western Australia and beyond, from the southern chill of their song 'Blackwood River', all the way north and over the ocean to Bali and back again for a cappuccino on High St with 'Goin' Down to Freo'. Influences such as Chet Atkins, Woody Guthrie and Townes van Zandt can clearly be heard mingling with sub-bass grooves and squelchy electronic beat treatments.
