Imelda May

Get your toes tapping as the new darling of retro brings her unique mix of pulsating '50s rockabilly, bluesy burlesque and ballads - backed by the big band oomph of thumping upright bass, guitars, drums, piano, trumpet and even a traditional Irish bodhran. Winner of Best Irish Female at the 2009 Meteor Awards (Ireland's national music awards), Imelda May has appeared at Glastonbury, Splendour, WOMAD and the Grammy Awards (with Jeff Beck). Let her shake your shimmy with hits like 'Johnny Got a Boom Boom', 'Love Tattoo' and 'Psycho'.

May is a stellar presence on stage, and her band emulates a Sun Studios rawness (there’s an unbeatable thrill from hearing rock’n’roll played with a proper upright bass). THE INDEPENDENT

Seated Show

First on stage: Rusty Pinto (solo)
After six years of playing as Rusty & the Dragstrip Trio, with weekly gigs at the Mustang Bar, two successful tours of the US (playing the famous Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender each time) as well as numerous festivals and private functions around Australia, the band took a break from May 2007 to September 2009.

During this break, a new band formed, the Rusty Pinto Combo, specialising in ‘40s and ‘50s jump blues and rockabilly. Still full of the same raw energy and enthusiasm, and with a broader range of music, the Rusty Pinto Combo won't disappoint Rusty & the Dragstrip Trio fans.

Inspired by artists such as Roy Brown, Johnny 'Guitar' Watson, Muddy Waters, Arthur Crudup, Wynonie Harris, Howlin' Wolf, Pat Cupp, Ray Charles, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley and the Johnny Burnette Trio, the Rusty Pinto Combo recreate and reinterpret music from a long-gone era.

Featuring: Marc Gordon (electric guitar), Richie Balazic (double bass), Matt Hanson (drums), Rusty Pinto (lead vocals and acoustic guitar) and Damian Denyer (saxophone).

After Party: Rusty Pinto Combo and DJ Rockin Rhys
Host of RTRFM's Rock, Rattle and Roll, Rockin Rhys joins us on the decks, blastin' out the latest and greatest vintage and contemporary rock and roll, rockabilly, rhythm and blues and all manner of roots music goodness.
