JS Bach's Brandenburg Concertos
Academy of Ancient Music
AUSTRALIAN EXCLUSIVE

The AAM and Richard Egarr bring their distinctive interpretation of JS Bach's Brandenburg Concertos to Perth on the heels of a celebrated new recording.

Written in the 1710s, the concertos were presented to the Margrave of Brandenburg in an unsuccessful attempt to gain princely patronage; and in the Margrave's library they languished, unperformed and unnoticed, until rediscovered many years after his death.

Now loved and recognised as some of the most masterful music of the Baroque period, these six dazzling concertos of vibrant contrast and glittering instrumental virtuosity are, in the words of Richard Egarr, 'one of the glories of the instrumental repertoire - and arguably some of the best chamber music ever penned'.

Suitability: ages 13+/years 8-12 Music (note: this piece is a WACE set work)
Themes: Baroque-period music

The Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) are among the world’s finest period-instrument ensembles, hailed worldwide for energised, passionate performances of baroque and classical music.

Founded by Christopher Hogwood in 1973, the AAM's ground-breaking vision and distinct style had an immediate and profound impact, inspiring a myriad of followers and changing the classical landscape forever. Since then they have reached music lovers around the globe with over 250 recordings and live performances on every continent.

Now led by the exhilarating Richard Egarr, the AAM have opened an exciting new chapter in their history. Together they have embarked on major international tours and have won Gramophone, MIDEM and Edison awards for their stellar recordings.
The AAM are presented in Perth as part of the centenary celebrations of The University of Western Australia.
